Monocle puts Hilversum under the microscope

Monocle is always a gratifying reading experience, but for Dutch people this is especially so this month with a 6-page article about media-town Hilversum, sometimes jokingly called ‘Hillywood’. The article itself doesn’t lend itself to be summarized, but we can divulge already the five suggestions Monocle gives the Dutch town so it can survive in a changing media landscape.

Simplify the system
Monocle praises the legislation decision to shrink Dutch public broadcasters from 24 to 8.

Export expertise
To build its brand Hilversum needs to export its second to none skills, to for example the BBC.

After-hour amenities
The media park only has one coffee shop. Open businesses and bars to create 24-hour charm, says Monocle.
Love your neighbor
Hilversum can’t compete with Amsterdam, so it needs to become the perfect complement. Transportation between the two cities needs to be improved.

Bring the past into the present
Instead of investing in new anonymous builds, Hilversum needs to turn its monuments into thriving creative hubs.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh COMELY

If you could discribe a Magazine as fragile; OH COMELY would fit the bill.
It reads like it could break in your hands, delicate drawings, frail fashion,
emotion ridden texts..... recommended!

A gentleman's style journal

FANTASTIC MAN ISSUE 14 IS IN!

according to themselves:

"The new, 14th issue of FANTASTIC MAN features the phenomenal fashion designer Mr. RAF SIMONS on the cover. Photographed at his home in Antwerp, RAF is seen wearing select pieces by RAF SIMONS and JIL SANDER – both brands he designs for. Other interesting men profiled in this issue include: the fabulous magician Mr. DAVID COPPERFIELD, the interior-decorator extraordinaire Mr. RICKY CLIFTON and the hailed London-based chef Mr. YOTAM OTTOLENGHI. Furthermore, FANTASTIC MAN explores new grounds in CHINA through a 37-page fashion reportage inspired by the stylistic characteristics of the men of Beijing. The remainder of the 268-page issue is full of absorbing stories, photographs of some gloriously useless PAPERWEIGHTS, style investigations, tips and tricks for the upcoming Autumn and Winter seasons, and a delightful new format in which we have conducted insightful conversations with three gentlemen of note: KIM JONES, DIRK SCHÖNBERGER and JOHNNY MARR, the famed guitarist of THE SMITHS. This new section is aptly titled ‘THE CONVERSATIONS’
